01/ Overview

The route

The Haldi trail on the sunny alpine terrace above Schattdorf rewards snowshoers with fantastic views of the Urner valley floor. And that’s not all: it is said to have a healing effect.

The seven-kilometre snowshoe tour begins at the Haldi bus stop in Schattdorf. The route initially climbs across open slopes before entering the forest. The ascent becomes steeper with increasing altitude; after just over an hour, the circuit passes close to Buggliegg. Shortly afterwards, the highest point is reached at around 1,430 m.

The route now gradually loses altitude, once again alternating between forest and open terrain. In total, it covers around 420 metres of elevation gain on an extended circuit lasting just over three and a half hours. Haldi comes back into view on the final section. The route passes the Haldi chapel before continuing back to the houses. After around seven kilometres, the circuit ends where it began, with the Haldi bus stop immediately beside the finish.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
