01/ Overview
The route
This trail takes hikers from a bustling winter sports resort to total seclusion in no time at all. At the highest point on the tour lies a hidden gem: the cosy Waldhüttli mountain pub.
The snowshoe tour begins at the top station of the Stoosbahn, just a few steps from the Stoos SZ stop. Leaving the settlement behind, the circular route heads out onto open slopes and initially descends steadily. After around two kilometres, it reaches its lowest point at just under 1,200 m. The route then turns into a longer climb, gaining significant elevation once more between meadows and pastures.
In the second section, the snowshoe trail climbs to just under 1,500 m. The highest point lies near Chalberstöckli and is reached after about five kilometres. Shortly afterwards, the route passes directly by Waldhüttli. From here, it continues through gentler undulating terrain back to the houses of Stoos. After around seven kilometres and approximately three and a half hours, the snowshoe tour ends back at the top station of the Stoosbahn.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
