01/ Overview
The route
From Eggbergen, an alpine terrace below Rophaien and Schön Chulm, snowshoers can trek through delightful scenery towards Hüenderegg.The reward awaiting them there is a tremendous view of the Urner mountain scenery.
The snowshoe trail begins at the Eggberge stop, winding between the houses before soon climbing across open slopes. Over a total distance of five kilometres, around 480 metres of ascent must be tackled. Wet meadows and occasional stretches of woodland punctuate the long climb towards Höch Egg, without reaching the summit itself.
After around two and a half kilometres, the route reaches its highest point at approximately 1'870 m. Shortly afterwards, Hüenderegg offers a viewpoint directly beside the route. Most of the ascent is therefore concentrated in the first half; beyond the viewpoint, a long, gentle descent follows. The snowshoe route once again alternates between open terrain and woodland. After around three hours, it ends in Bürglen, Ruogig, directly beside the Ruogig stop.
