01/ Overview
The route
The snowshoe hiking tour, with a view of the Gitschener mountain panorama, leads across open terrain and through woodland. The circuit over the alp high above the Isenthal is suitable for beginners.
The short circular tour starts at the Gitschenen stop, right by Gasthaus Gitschenen. The first ascent begins between the houses and leads uphill across open terrain. Within the first quarter of the route, the snowshoe trail reaches its highest point near Stöckli at around 1,600 m. It then descends and enters the forest.
Continuing in a broad arc, the route initially descends steeply before climbing again. Open areas alternate with sections of forest, and in places the trail crosses boggy hollows and wet meadows. The roughly three-kilometre route involves around 240 metres of ascent in total. Towards the end, the terrain opens up again and the houses of Gitschenen draw closer. After a little over an hour and a half, the loop ends at the guesthouse, just a few steps from the Gitschenen stop.
