01/ Overview
The route
A short snowshoe circuit across the open slopes of Niederbauen, with views of Lake Lucerne and the Alps. After the descent to Unterst Hütte, a gentle climb leads back to the mountain station.
The Emmetten–Niederbauen cable car leads directly to the starting point at Niederbauen mountain station. The snowshoe tour, just over three kilometres long, begins here at around 1,570 m. Berggasthaus Niederbauen stands right by the start, with broad slopes opening out beyond it and views of Lake Lucerne and the Alps.
The route initially descends across open terrain towards Ebnet. It then continues via Hölloch to Unterst Hütte, where the lowest point is reached about halfway around the circuit. Wildlife quiet zones and wildlife protection areas must be respected along the way; it is also advisable to check the latest avalanche bulletin before setting off.
From Unterst Hütte, the trail climbs steadily again. Towards the end, the circuit reaches its highest point at just under 1,600 m, before returning to Niederbauen mountain station after a little over an hour.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
