01/ Overview
The route
This picturesque circular route by the railway village of Göschenen takes you along the Reuss tributary and the Bitziwald. Its low gradient makes it a pleasure for inexperienced snowshoe hikers too.
The snowshoe tour begins at the Göschenen power station, a short distance from public transport; the nearest stop, Göschenen, Dorf, is around 400 m away. From the first houses, the route initially heads into open terrain and climbs gently. Abfrutt is reached after about one kilometre.
Beyond Abfrutt, open areas alternate with woodland. The ascent continues into the final third of the circuit, where the route reaches its highest point at just under 1,200 m. The Schilt is the nearest summit. The total elevation gain is around 130 metres. The snowshoe tour then heads back downhill. Longer stretches now lead through the forest before the terrain opens up again towards the end. After around 3 km and just under an hour and a half, the circuit ends back at the Göschenen power station; from here, the Göschenen, Dorf stop is again around 400 m away.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
