01/ Overview
The route
Short and sweet: this circuit from the car-free sun terrace of Melchsee-Frutt up to the magical Blauseeli takes just one hour, but it offers an impressive mountain panorama as well as superb peace and quiet. At the end there is time to pop into the village of Frutt-Dörfli.
The roughly four-kilometre snowshoe circuit starts directly at the Melchsee-Frutt mountain station. Shortly after the start, it reaches its highest point at around 1,930 m; the route then descends between the houses and across open terrain. At Stäubiloch, the name recalls a former turbine installation that supplied the Hotel Reinhard with electricity until 1954. The circuit soon passes close to Melchsee in the Uri Alps, a lake retained by an artificial dam.
After about half the distance, the lowest point is reached at around 1,860 m. From here, the snowshoe trail climbs again in gentle undulations and crosses the broad plateau back towards Melchsee-Frutt. Near the end, the houses of the village draw closer once more. After just under two hours and a total ascent of around 180 metres, the circuit ends back at the Melchsee-Frutt mountain station.
