01/ Overview
The route
The Schwyberg trail makes for a wonderfully decelerating experience. Peace and nature have returned to what was once a bustling ski resort. Once you have climbed the Schwyberg, a breathtaking view from the alps to the Jura rewards the hikers.
The snowshoe tour begins at the Schwarzsee, Gypsera bus stop, just a few steps from the trailhead. Right at the start, the route passes close to Schwarzsee. Covering around 0.5 km², the lake marks the opening section before the circuit leaves the houses of Schwarzsee behind. The route then steadily gains height across meadows and open terrain, with the long ascent defining the first part of the tour.
After around six kilometres, the snowshoe route reaches its highest point at just over 1,600 metres. The entire nine-kilometre circuit involves around 700 metres of ascent. The route then leads back downhill. Alongside open terrain, moorland and wet meadows now become more prominent. After a total of just over five hours, the descent ends back in Schwarzsee, Gypsera, where the bus stop of the same name is located right by the finish.
