01/ Overview
The route
This route leads from S-chanf into the Val Trupchun through lush alpine meadows, one of the idyllic side valleys of the Upper Engadin. This varies hike offers a fascinating glimpse of the Upper Engadin’s wildlife and plants.
From the S-chanf, Parc Naziunal bus stop, the mountain trail initially climbs through the forest. The ascent remains noticeable for long stretches and gradually leads into more open terrain. After almost six kilometres, the highest point at just over 2,050 m is reached near Piz dals Buochs. By this point, much of the total ascent of around 600 metres has already been completed.
The route then alternates between open pastures and wooded slopes. Around the halfway point, a wildlife observation point offers a good place for a break. The trail then begins to descend again and enters God Chanels towards the end. The shady forest accompanies the final section back to the starting point at the S-chanf, Parc Naziunal bus stop. A little over four hours should be allowed for the 14-kilometre circuit. As the entire route follows a mountain hiking trail, suitable footwear and sure-footedness are essential.
