01/ Overview

The route

A gentle theme trail through the forests around Bonfol, passing the Chapelle St-Fromond and leading to the Étangs de Bonfol. There is barely any elevation gain, but plenty of ponds, woodland paths and Jura hills.

The theme trail begins in Bonfol, though not directly at the railway station: the Bonfol, gare stop is around 800 m from the starting point. The route initially leads out of the village and into the forest. With no major climbs, it follows hiking trails in places through the hills to the highest point near Notre Dame du Mont at around 480 m.

Farther on in the forest, the Chapelle St-Fromond stands directly beside the trail. The route then descends to the houses of Bonfol and reaches its lowest point at around 433 m. In the final third, woodland paths lead to the Étangs de Bonfol. This pond landscape includes the étang du Milieu and the Neuf-Etang, which are separated by a dam. The theme trail ends at another point in Bonfol; the railway station is just under 2 km from there.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
