01/ Overview
The route
The Sentier du Corbery leads through the peaceful forests near Bonfol to the eponymous ponds. A gentle themed circuit with abundant greenery, ending at the Étang du Milieu.
The Sentier du Corbery begins in Bonfol, with the railway station just over 300 m from the actual starting point. The Étangs de Bonfol are nearby from the outset. This group of ponds comprises the Étang du Milieu and the Neuf-Étang, which are separated by a dam. The route then enters the forest, which defines its character for much of the way.
With only around 90 metres of ascent, the circuit remains gentle. A large part of it runs outside the marked hiking trail network, interspersed with shorter sections along a hiking trail. Just over halfway round, the route reaches its highest point near Mont de Miserez at around 475 m. From there, it leads back through the forest towards Bonfol without any long descent. Only at the very end does the water once again come right up to the trail: on the shore of the Étang du Milieu, the circuit of just under ten kilometres comes full circle in Bonfol.
