01/ Overview
The route
The classic Poschiavo hike takes us into the Val da Camp, now part of the Federal Inventory of Landscapes and Cultural Monuments of National Importance. It is a hike characterised by pastures, high-plateaus and lakes.
The approximately six-kilometre hike begins at the Alp Camp bus stop. The mountain trail, marked white-red-white, leaves the small settlement of Camp and descends through the forest to Lagh da Saoseo. The route runs directly along its shore, with views of the water opening up between the trees.
The trail then climbs out of the forest into open meadows and pastures. As it gains height, the terrain becomes more expansive, until the highest point is reached near Dosson at around 2'270 m. Shortly afterwards comes Lagh da Val Viola at 2'159 m, the second mountain lake on the route and a pleasant place for a break.
The return route winds steadily up and down through Val da Camp before re-entering the forest. After around two hours and 360 metres of ascent, the hike ends back at the Alp Camp bus stop.
