Bernina-Tour, Stage 2/5

On the way between Lago Bianco and Lej Nair, you will be on the language border and watershed. As you climb the rocky northern slope, the vegetation becomes sparser. At an altitude of 3,001 metres, the views of Piz Palü, Piz Bernina and the Pers and Morteratsch glaciers are breathtaking.

From the Ospizio Bernina stop, the mountain trail, marked in white-red-white, leads across open pastures to the Berninapass and Lago Bianco. The lake lies between Valposchiavo and Val Bernina. The route then initially descends through open terrain. At the lowest point, the opening section is complete and the long ascent to Diavolezza begins.

The trail climbs steadily across barren slopes. The greenery gradually recedes, with scree and rock characterising the upper section. The continuously waymarked mountain trail requires stamina: over nine kilometres, it gains around 900 metres in elevation. Shortly before the destination, the route reaches its highest point near Sass Queder at around 3,000 metres.

A little later, it crosses the Diavolezza col and passes Berghaus Diavolezza. After a little over three and a half hours, the hike ends at the Diavolezza mountain station; the stop of the same name is just a few steps away.
