01/ Overview
The route
A short geology trail from Morteratsch follows the traces of the glacier through rocky, open terrain. The steady ascent follows a mountain trail to just over 2,000 m.
It is only a few steps from the Morteratsch stop to the start of the Morteratsch Glacier Trail. The white-red-white waymarked mountain trail climbs steadily from the valley floor. Rocky expanses and open meadows define the landscape; Restaurant Morteratsch is located close to the starting point. As a geology trail, the route explores the traces left by the glacier in the landscape and, according to the operator, is also suitable for families with children.
Over the route’s nearly three kilometres, the ascent of around 130 metres remains manageable, but the mountain trail requires care. Rocky terrain repeatedly emerges between the open meadows. After just under an hour, the trail reaches both its highest point, at just over 2,000 m, and its destination, Pontresina. There is no public transport connection directly at the destination: the nearest stop, Diavolezzafirn (Talstation), is around two and a half kilometres away.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
