01/ Overview
The route
Featuring three mountain lakes, Nordic landscapes, watchmaking and culinary specialties, Joux Valley has been an attractive region for all lovers of nature and authenticity for many years. This hike leads around Lac de Joux, the largest lake in the Jura massif.
The starting point near Le Sentier is just a few steps from the Le Pont (lac) stop. The broad hiking trail then leads through Le Pont and past the Restaurant du Lac. Open meadows and woodland alternate from here, while the slight differences in elevation characterise the 22-kilometre circuit.
The route passes through Vers-chez-Grosjean to Les Bioux and Bas-des-Bioux. It remains on the broad valley floor, continuing in gentle undulations to La Golisse. At Bellevue Le Rocheray, a wooded section begins, leading to the Entonnoirs du Rocheray and du Prè Lionnet.
At Le Lieu, the landscape opens up again. The small Lac Ter lies slightly off the route, around 200 metres away. The trail then climbs gently once more, reaching the highest point of the hike near L’Aouille at around 1,090 m. From there, it descends gradually. Towards the end, the route runs directly beside Lac de Joux before the circuit finishes in Le Sentier after a good five and a half hours.
