01/ Overview

The route

This interesting hike leads past unique and unspoilt scenery typical to the Jura region with its gorges, woods, meadows and rocky faces. Following far-reaching views seen from the Belchenflue and decent through woods and meadows, Olten invites you to stop for a pause along the River Aare.

The long ascent into the Jura hills begins at Hägendorf railway station. The waymarked hiking trail briefly follows the Cholersbach before climbing through extensive forest. Around Allerheiligenberg, open meadows alternate with wooded slopes before the route reaches Wuesthöchi.

On the ridge near Ruchen, the route climbs to around 1,050 m and thus to its highest point. The actual summit lies off the trail in the forest. Shortly afterwards, the path passes Drachenloch. It then continues in a steady succession of ascents and descents along the Jura ridge, past the General-Wille-Haus SAC and onwards to Rumpelhöchi. Between the wooded sections, meadows lend the ridge a more open character.

The final section loses altitude rapidly. Settlements and roads herald the approach to Olten, where the hike ends after around five hours and 800 metres of elevation gain. From the wooded Jura ridge, the route leads directly down to Olten railway station.
