01/ Overview

The route

A demanding mountain hike across alpine pastures and two passes: from Leiterepass, the route climbs to just over 2,040 m before descending past Gantrischseeli to Gantrischhütte.

The roughly ten-kilometre mountain hike starts at the Gurnigel, Wasserscheide bus stop. The mountain path climbs across meadows and alpine pastures to Obernünene, then ascends steeply to Leiterepass. With every metre gained, the surroundings become more expansive and rocky.

Beyond the pass, the route continues towards Gantrisch. Near Schibenspitz, the hike reaches its highest point at around 2,040 m. The mountain path then descends to Morgetepass, marking the start of the long descent. It steadily loses altitude across extensive pastures as the rocky heights gradually recede into the distance.

In the final third, the path becomes easier. It passes the small Gantrischseeli and continues gently through the pastures to Untere Gantrischhütte. A short while later, the hike of just over three hours ends at the Gurnigel, Gantrischhütte bus stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
