01/ Overview
The route
The trail runs along the south-eastern hillside and through fragrant forests, then past gnarled fir trees and bubbling mountain streams. Solid stone walls, round arches, characteristic oriels and mysterious alleyways can be explored in the Engadine villages. Enjoy the impressive view of the huge mountain ranges.
The starting point is only a few steps from Bever railway station. Initially, the white-red-white waymarked mountain hiking trail leads through the village before soon climbing into the forest. The trail gains elevation among the trees before the woodland thins and open meadows and pastures come to define the landscape.
The route continues across the open slopes in a steady succession of ascents and descents. After just over seven kilometres, the highest point is reached at just under 2,000 metres. This is followed by the longer descent to Zuoz, initially still across open terrain and then down to the village.
After a total of around eleven kilometres, the hike ends in Zuoz. The railway station is only a few minutes’ walk from the finish. Around three and a half hours should be allowed for the hike, with a total ascent of approximately 560 metres. The start and finish are at almost the same elevation, but the trail in between climbs considerably.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
