From the busy First railway station, you go on to the tranquil, traditional Belle Epoque Hotel Rosenlaui. Arriving at the Grosse Scheidegg you descend further: on mountain paths across alpine farms, at the foot of the steep Wellhorn cliffs and along the Rychenbach into the Rosenlaui Valley.

The hike begins at the First stop, the highest point on the route at around 2,165 metres. The mountain path initially crosses open terrain. A few short uphill sections add variety, but overall the route clearly heads downhill. It continues across alpine pastures and past rocky sections towards Grosse Scheidegg.

The pass, at around 1,960 metres, connects Grindelwald with the Haslital and lies below the Wetterhorn. Here the scenery changes: the broad slopes are followed by a longer descent, at times on a narrower mountain path. The first buildings appear at Alpiglen, after which pastures and woodland alternate.

In the Schwarzwaldalp area, the path widens again. It continues downhill through the forest into the Rosenlauital, where the hike ends at Rosenlaui after 13 kilometres and just over three hours. The Rosenlaui, Hotel stop is located immediately beside the finish.
