Taking the route through the Schöllenenschlucht gorge today is much easier than in Suvorov's time. He and his soldiers had to force the French troops back down the valley. However, he was given a memorial at the Teufelsbrücke (Devil's Bridge) for his pains.

From the Andermatt, Tourist Info bus stop, the mountain path leads out of the village and initially climbs gently. After just over one kilometre, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,440 m. Open meadows and pastures characterise the opening section; shortly afterwards, the Suworow Bar lies directly beside the path. Geissenplatz offers another opportunity for a stop.

The path then heads downhill. The long descent leads from the open slopes increasingly into the forest, reaching Göschenen roughly halfway along. Bistro Göschenen is located close to the route. The mountain path then continues with only brief counter-climbs; overall, 160 metres of ascent contrast with around 680 metres of descent.

In the final third, stretches of forest alternate with the houses of Wattingen. After the lowest point, the route climbs gently once more. At the Bahnhof Wassen viewpoint, the destination is almost reached. A little later, after just over two and three-quarter hours, the roughly ten-kilometre hike ends in Wassen; the Wassen, Dorf bus stop is only a few steps away.
