01/ Overview

The route

From the Oberalp Pass, mountain paths that are mainly narrow wind down to the hamlet of Tschamut and then onwards across the golf course to the Walser settlement of Selva. After Cavorgia, the route climbs uphill again through the forest, and continues to the saddle above Mutschnengia. The stage ends just as steeply, through wild mountain forests and over freight roads in the Walser village of Curaglia.

The mountain hike starts at Oberalppass railway station at around 2'040 m, which is also the highest point of the route. The mountain path leaves the pass and descends through open pastures. Before long, the Rain Anteriur accompanies the descent towards Tschamut, while the Oberalpsee is left behind near the pass.

After Tschamut, the route continues through the Surselva. Open slopes alternate with sections of forest, and the longer descents are repeatedly interrupted by climbs. As a result, despite the considerable loss in elevation, the route still involves around 700 metres of ascent. The trail leads via Selva and Surrein to Cavorgia, then continues through more extensive stretches of forest.

At Stagias, the barbecue area offers a suitable place for a rest. The route then passes through Mutschnengia, with its church of Sogn Bistgaun, before beginning the final descent. After a total of around 21 kilometres and a good six hours, the hike ends in Curaglia. The Curaglia, posta bus stop is close to the finish.
