01/ Overview
The route
From Oberalppass via Calmut and Pass Tiarms to Sedrun: this geological themed trail combines open Alpine pastures, long descents and a steep final climb to the high-lying destination.
The geological hiking trail known as the Senda ecologica Sedrun begins at Oberalppass railway station. From the pass linking the Surselva with the Urserental, the mountain trail climbs through open slopes. After around two kilometres, it reaches its highest point at Calmut, at approximately 2,300 m; Oberalpsee lies behind.
The route then loses considerable elevation at Pass Tiarms. It crosses Alpine pastures on a long descent to Milez before continuing downhill through forest. Along the way, the themed trail focuses on the region’s geology and history without losing its character as a mountain trail. The lowest point is reached near Zarcuns at around 1,430 m.
Via Camischolas and the houses of Sedrun, the route climbs steeply again towards the end. A longer section runs outside the marked hiking trail network before the mountain trail resumes towards the destination at around 1,820 m. The nearest stop, Sedrun Cungieri (sortida), is around 500 m from the endpoint.
