01/ Overview

The route

Route between former Walser settlements and today’s famous tourist destinations of Klosters and Davos, over the Wolfgang Pass. Visit to Kirchner Art Museum in Davos.

The starting point is Schlappin above Klosters, which, at around 1,660 m, is also the highest point on the route. The start is not served by public transport; the nearest stop, Saaser Alp Donnerstein, is around one kilometre away. After just a few minutes, the trail leads directly past Schlappinsee. The mountain trail then descends through pastures and forest to Klosters Dorf and continues to the houses of Klosters Platz.

Beyond the village, the long climb back up begins. Initially, a hiking trail leads out of the built-up area; later, the mountain trail becomes steeper again. Crossing open terrain, the route reaches the Stützbach and follows it for several kilometres. At Schwarzsee, at around 1,500 m, the water lies directly beside the trail; nearby, in the hamlet of Laret, stands the heritage-listed Reformed church.

From the Wolfgang Pass, at around 1,630 m, the trail descends to Davosersee, follows its shore and reaches Davos after 18 kilometres and just over five hours. The Davos Dorf stop is only a few steps from the finish.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
