01/ Overview
The route
Plenty of sunshine, magnificent countryside, and panoramic views of the Leistchamm, the jagged Churfirsten, and the Toggenburg are among the highlights the trail from Arvenbüel to Vorder Höhi has to offer. After snowshoeing through sparse forest and over snowy Alpine meadows, the cosy, little mountain inn invites you to relax and refuel.
The snowshoe trail starts at the Arvenbüel, Arven bus stop in the hamlet of Arvenbüel. It initially descends to the lowest point of the circuit before climbing across open meadows and pastures. Boggy hollows alternate with short stretches of woodland; as the route gains height, the terrain opens up again.
The ascent sweeps in a wide arc into the surroundings of Flügespitz. The summit itself lies off the route. Just before the halfway point, the trail reaches its highest point at around 1,630 metres. Shortly afterwards comes Vorder Höhi, the pass linking Amden with Starkenbach.
From the top of the pass, the snowshoe tour heads back towards Arvenbüel. Across open terrain, through moorland and occasional stretches of woodland, the route descends around 520 metres. After nine kilometres and a good four hours, the circuit ends back at the Arvenbüel, Arven bus stop.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
