01/ Overview
The route
Stroll with views of the Alps - from Küssnacht through the nature reserves in Wagenmoos, along the lakeshore at Meggen and Meggehorn castle. Approach to the city of Lucerne and arrival along the 19th-century tourism alley, its quay with distant views of the Alps.
From the Küssnacht am Rigi bus stop, the waymarked hiking trail leads out of the village. Open meadows and stretches of woodland alternate along the gentle ascent. The picnic area at Wagenmoos offers a first opportunity for a break, and shortly afterwards the route reaches its highest point at around 630 metres.
The trail then descends via Tschädigen to the Magdalenenkirche and continues towards Meggen. Passing between fields and residential areas, it approaches Lake Lucerne. Schloss Meggenhorn is particularly rewarding, a stately residence on the headland separating Küssnachtersee from Luzernersee. The building belongs to the municipality of Meggen and is used as a museum and event venue.
On the final section, the surroundings become increasingly urban. The trail continues via Seeburg to Luzern, where the lake finally lies directly beside the route. After 17 kilometres and around four and a half hours, the hike ends at Bahnhofquai.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
