01/ Overview
The route
Walking along historic irrigation channels (also known as Suonen), adventurous tunnels, larch forests, with a view of Glishorn, Matterhorn, the Leone Group and Mischabel – experience all this and more on the hike from Birgisch via Mund, the so-called saffron village, to Eggen.
From the Birgisch, Parkplatz bus stop, the route initially leads out of the village. Before long, the broad hiking trail becomes a steeper mountain path. It climbs through woodland and rocky terrain to the Steihow viewpoint. The route then continues with alternating ascents and descents to reach Mund.
Beyond Mund, the route is characterised by open meadows and pastures. The settlements remain small and scattered as the trail steepens once again. After Chaschtler, the hike reaches its highest point at around 1,630 m, near the Gärsthorn. By this stage, most of the roughly 660 metres of ascent has been completed.
The hiking trail now descends to Finnen, passing close to the Bergrestaurant Finnubiel. It continues across open slopes and through short stretches of woodland to Eggen. The Wirtschaft Egga stands directly beside the trail. The hike of just under four hours ends shortly afterwards; the Eggerberg, Stäga bus stop is only a few steps away.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
