Aletsch Panoramaweg

Three days under the spell of the Valais glacier landscape. Sensational scenic tour with many vantage points onto the two longest glaciers in the Alps. The grey-white of ice and rock contrasting with shades of green in the Aletschwald (forest) provides stunning scenic beauty.

From the Belalp stop, the hiking trail leads via Bruchegg to Aletschbord, a viewpoint directly on the route. The mountain trail then passes the Aletschji chapel and crosses open slopes into increasingly rocky terrain. Over the approximately 30 kilometres, the ascents add up to around 1,850 metres of elevation gain; walking time is a good nine hours.

With continual ups and downs, the trail approaches Moosfluh before climbing to its highest point at around 2,490 m near Bettmerhorn. Here, rock and broad open expanses define the surroundings. Shortly after the highest point, a section runs outside the marked hiking trail network before rejoining a mountain trail leading to the Märjelen reservoir.

The long descent drops a total of around 2,400 metres. Farther down, woodland becomes more prominent, followed later by the first houses of Bellwald. From the Muttergotteskapelle, it is only a few more steps to the destination at the Bellwald mountain station.
