Walserweg, Stage 17/19

The hike from Langwies to Klosters is demanding but the reward is unspoilt cultural landscapes and vast alpine areas. For an insight into the life of the Walser farmers, we recommend a visit to the Nutli Hüschi local history museum.

The approximately 23-kilometre hike begins at the Langwies, Abzw. Bahnhof bus stop. Still within the village, the route passes the Reformed church with its distinctive tower. The mountain hiking trail soon climbs through sections of woodland and across open pastures. The ascent remains steady for long stretches, passing scattered settlements before emerging into increasingly expansive terrain.

At the Durannapass, the route crosses from the Schanfigg into the Prättigau. Shortly afterwards, the Grünsee lies directly beside the trail. The mountain path climbs once more and reaches the highest point of the hike near the Schwarzhorn at around 2,340 m. By this point, a good half of the route has been completed.

A long descent follows, initially across open slopes and later increasingly through woodland. Approaching Klosters, the trail becomes easier and descends into the inhabited valley. After a good seven hours, the hike ends in Klosters; the Klosters Dorf stop is just a few steps from the destination.
