01/ Overview
The route
Leaving the handsome Walser houses of the Fondei valley behind, you now walk up to the Blackter Fürggli. On the trail you enjoy fantastic views across the Schanfigg valley, cross Alpine meadows and find piles of hay on the steep slopes of the Hochwang chain.
The starting point in Strassberg is some distance from public transport; the nearest stop, Fideris, Heuberg Arflina, is around 3 km away. From Strassberg, the white-red-white marked mountain trail initially leads to Meierhof before climbing through open meadows and alpine pastures. It gains height quickly and reaches the Blackter Fürggli after a good two kilometres. Here, amid the Blackter Flüe, the route reaches its highest point at around 2'140 m.
Beyond the pass, the elevation profile becomes gentler. The mountain trail continues in a long series of easy ascents and descents through largely open terrain; woodland and settlements barely feature along this high-level route. The Blackter Flüe lie to one side, with the Spitzenbüel farther out, while the trail gradually approaches the Hochwang. The final section is predominantly downhill. After around nine kilometres and just under three hours, the hike ends at Skihaus Hochwang above St. Peter. The destination is also not directly served by public transport: the St. Peter, Triemel stop is around 1 km away.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
There may be snow on this hiking trail. Bring appropriate gear and plan accordingly.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
