Walserweg, Stage 2/19

From the Hinterrhein, Dorf bus stop, the mountain trail climbs out of the Rheinwald towards the Valserberg. The houses are soon left behind, and open meadows and pastures characterise the long ascent. The terrain becomes rockier towards the pass. After just under six kilometres, the highest point is reached at around 2,500 metres. The Valserberg is a packhorse pass linking the Rheinwald with the Valsertal.

Beyond the pass, the long descent into the Valsertal begins. The mountain trail traverses open slopes, with a total descent of around 1,350 metres before reaching Vals. Individual houses reappear near Hofli before the trail reaches the village of Vals. The parish church of St Peter and Paul stands directly on the route at the village square. A few steps later, the roughly 15-kilometre hike ends at the Vals, Post bus stop. A little over five and a half hours should be allowed for the entire crossing.
