Walserweg, Stage 9/19

Views deep down to the old Averserstrasse with its natural-stone buildings. At the Valle-di-Lei bridge, Ferrera and the high valley of Avers meet Italy. The Cresta valley church has a charm of its own. Walser houses with «Seelepalgge» (small chamber for laying out the dead, accessed from outside). From the Ferrera, Innerferrera bus stop, the route leads out of the village and onto the mountain trail marked in white, red and white. Over the first few kilometres, open meadows alternate with woodland as the trail steadily gains height. Campsut provides a brief village interlude. Immediately afterwards, an unmarked section follows for a few hundred metres, before the Walserstuba comes into view directly beside the trail at Cröt.

The long high-level hike then continues with steady ascents and descents. At Cresta, the route passes the Reformed church, a protected place of worship, before continuing through open pastures and the scattered settlements of the high valley. The mountain trail remains the guiding thread almost all the way to Juf. Shortly before the destination, the hike reaches its highest point at just over 2,100 metres. After around 19 kilometres and a good six hours, the tour ends in Juf; the Avers, Juf bus stop is only a few steps away.
