01/ Overview
The route
This loop trail leads through the many scattered settlements on Weissenberge, a sunny mountain terrace in the Glarus region.
The short circular hike begins directly in Matt (Weissenberge) at the Weissenberge stop. The yellow-waymarked trail initially descends gently before crossing open meadows to the Waldibach. The route follows the stream for a while before the climb becomes noticeably steeper at the Mühlemad barbecue area.
After roughly half the distance, the trail crosses pastures to reach its highest point at around 1,400 m, near the Gulichopf. The gradient then eases, and the circuit continues over gently undulating terrain to Weissenberge. The Berggasthaus Edelwyss lies almost directly on the route and is a good place to stop for refreshments towards the end. The loop then closes back at the Weissenberge stop. A little over an hour should be allowed for the approximately four kilometres with 180 metres of ascent. The open landscape, the short section beside the stream and the manageable distance characterise this easy circuit.
