01/ Overview
The route
From the small town of Willisau, this high-level hike crosses farmland and wooded ridges into the Luthertal. The highest point and sweeping views over the Lucerne hinterland await on the Churzhubelegg.
From Willisau railway station, the route initially leads through the old town and past the Heiligblut church. The houses are then left behind as the hiking trail climbs across meadows and pastures towards Honegg. Farms line the ridge, with stretches of woodland alternating with open farmland.
Via Birchbühl, the route continues to Kreuzstiegen, which connects Hergiswil and the Luthertal. The long ascent gains around 440 metres in elevation but remains on yellow-marked hiking trails. Time and again, the open slopes reveal views over the Lucerne hinterland; there are no refreshment stops along the way.
Towards the end, the hike reaches its highest point on the Churzhubelegg at around 910 m. The picnic area with a fire pit is a good place for a break before the trail descends to Luthern. After just over four hours, the tour ends at the Luthern, Dorf stop; Gasthof Krone is right next to it.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
