01/ Overview
The route
A short woodland circuit above Willisau: native trees and shrubs line the shady path, with a picnic area along the way and the option of a detour to the Pilatus viewpoint.
The signposted circuit begins at the Ostergau roundabout; Willisau railway station is around 400 m away. Following the route clockwise, the forest nature trail climbs into a species-rich mixed deciduous woodland. Information panels draw attention to native trees and shrubs as the broad hiking trail steadily gains height. A picnic area with a table and benches provides an opportunity for a break.
About halfway round, the route reaches its highest point at around 670 m. A detour opens up views across the hills to Pilatus. The route then descends through the forest, away from the marked hiking trail network. Shortly before the starting point, the Galgen-Chäppeli lies almost directly on the route, before the circuit ends back at the Ostergau roundabout.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
