Aargauer Weg, Stage 4/6

From Brugg, climb up to the Gebenstorfer Horn, the perfect viewing platform for the Switzerland's «Wasserschloss». Along the Jura ridgeway to Baldegg with views of the Alps, then down to the former Habsburg Stein Castle and down to the beautiful Baden old town.

From Brugg railway station, the yellow-waymarked hiking trail initially leads through the town. Near the Black Tower, Brugg’s oldest building and landmark, is the bridge across the narrowest point of the Aare. Beyond the houses, woodland, meadows and residential areas alternate as the route passes through Vogelsang to Turgi.

The trail then enters the forest and reaches the Gebenstorfer Horn. It continues with steady ups and downs; near Hundsbuck, roughly halfway along the route, lies the highest point at around 570 metres. The long walk remains on well-maintained hiking trails, but with a total duration of six hours it requires stamina.

On the Schlossberg above Baden, the route leads directly to the St Nicholas castle chapel on the ridge, which served as the court chapel of Stein Castle in the Middle Ages. It then passes through Baden and out again between woodland and open fields. Towards the end, the houses of Mellingen come into view. The trail leads through the old town to Lindenplatz, where the hike ends at the bus stop.
