01/ Overview
The route
The round tour leads on a dam wall along the Stausee (reservoir). Thanks to its elevated position, the route offers breathtaking views with the sky seeming close enough to touch.
The circular hike begins just under 300 m from Döttingen railway station. The yellow-waymarked trail leaves the village without any significant ascent and continues through open countryside. After around 3 km, it reaches the Klingnauer Stausee. Here, the view opens out across the water. The artificial reservoir was created during the construction of the Klingnau hydroelectric power station on the Aare in the 1930s and is now a nature reserve. Numerous bird species find an important habitat here.
From the shore, the route once again crosses broad, open terrain towards Döttingen. Near the end, the settlement draws closer while the trail remains almost completely level. At around 330 m, the highest point is not reached until the finish. After just under two hours and around 7 km, the hike ends directly at Döttingen railway station.
