ViaRhenana, Stage 7/10

Between Schwaderloch and Rheinsulz, this widely varied section culminates on the forested northern slope of the Tafeljura mountains, with splendid views over the Rheintal valley. Particularly attractive: Koblenz with its four large historic bridges.

A long but only moderately ascending hike begins at Bad Zurzach railway station. A broad, yellow-waymarked hiking trail leads out of the village to the tranquil waters of the Chly Rhy, which lie directly beside the route in two places. Open meadows, stretches of woodland and the houses of Koblenz then alternate.

Beyond Felsenau, the trail crosses open countryside, repeatedly entering the forest. Just over halfway, the «Bunker» viewpoint lies almost directly on the trail. Above Schwaderloch, the longest gentle ascent follows. Between Schwaderloch and Etzgen, the route reaches its highest point near the Laubberg at around 410 metres.

The trail now descends gradually via Etzgen and Rheinsulz towards Laufenburg. Meadows and woodland give way to the first houses. In the old town, the route passes the Church of St John the Baptist, whose present building was probably constructed between 1439 and 1510, and continues past Restaurant Meerfräulein. Shortly afterwards, the hike ends at Laufenburg railway station.
