Aargauer Weg, Stage 5/6

A gentle walk through times gone by: from the small Habsburg town of Mellingen to a similar little gem. The old town of Bremgarten. The meandering Reuss is the walker's constant companion, fringing the trail with idyllic water meadows.

The starting point is quickly reached from the Mellingen, Lindenplatz bus stop. The yellow-waymarked hiking trail leaves the town and heads into the countryside without any major climbs. Initially, shady woodland sections characterise the route. After the first third, the trail reaches Gnadenthal before leaving the settlement behind once more.

The second half alternates between woodland, open meadows and pastures. The elevation profile remains pleasantly gentle, gaining only around 170 metres over 14 kilometres. Only towards the end does the trail climb to its highest point near Heidehuebel at around 390 m. Bremgarten is then already close. At the destination stands the Schlössli, a castle-like townhouse that evolved from a medieval castle. The hike ends in Bremgarten after just over three and a half hours; the railway station is only a few steps from the end of the route.
