01/ Overview
The route
This easy hike follows the Aabach through Aargau’s industrial history. Former industrial sites, open meadows and short stretches of woodland line the route from Lenzburg to Wildegg.
The stage begins at Lenzburg railway station, almost at the highest point of the route, at around 406 m. After an initial stretch through the town, the trail meets the Aabach and follows it downstream from here on. Information panels at former industrial sites explain how water power once drove workshops and factories. Along the way, they feature sites including the Sauerstoffwerk Lenzburg, the Tommasini pasta factory, Hero and the Wisa-Gloria works.
In Niederlenz, the stream remains the guiding thread. Passing between houses, open meadows and short stretches of woodland, the route continues to Wildegg without any significant climbs. Panels on the Swiss linen industry and the copper-wire insulation works continue the story of the area’s industrial history. Near the end, the route briefly follows the KIW canal and then the Bünz. Schloss Wildegg can be seen above the village, standing around eighty metres above Wildegg on a rocky spur of the Chestenberg. Shortly afterwards, the hike ends at Wildegg railway station.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
