01/ Overview
The route
From the Aabach via the Esterliturm to Eichberg, this hike from Lenzburg to the moated Hallwyl Castle is characterised by woodland paths, sweeping views and vineyard slopes.
From Lenzburg railway station, the route initially leads through the town before soon following the Aabach. At Fünfweiher, the built-up area gives way to forest. Broad hiking trails continue to the Esterliturm, whose viewing platform offers a panoramic vista across the Aargau Mittelland.
The trail then passes through forest and open meadows to Egliswil. At the village, it briefly meets the Mühlebach before the longest ascent towards Eichberg begins. Around the Eichberg estate farm, organic farming and vegetable cultivation shape the open landscape. Shortly afterwards, the hike reaches its highest point at around 615 metres. Views of the lake and mountains accompany the onward route, which near the Lindenmann winery also passes through vineyard slopes.
The descent leads to Seengen and past the Reformed church. Beyond the last houses, the route continues to the Seengen, Schloss Hallwyl bus stop. Nearby stands the moated castle on two islands in the Aabach; its historical exhibition provides a cultural finale.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
