01/ Overview
The route
From the moated Schloss Hallwyl, the educational trail follows the Aabach to Lenzburg. Along the way, information panels explain how hydropower, the textile industry and local businesses shaped Aargau.
From the Seengen, Schloss Hallwyl bus stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point at Schloss Hallwyl. This important moated castle stands on two islands in the Aabach. The route then passes through Eichholz and soon reaches its highest point at around 450 m.
The educational trail follows the Aabach for almost the entire three-and-a-half-hour hike. Information panels at former company sites recount the industrialisation of Aargau, the use of hydropower and the development of the textile industry. Between open meadows, wooded banks and the first houses, the stream remains the guiding thread as far as Seon.
Beyond Seon, quiet riverside paths alternate with fields and short stretches of woodland. Approaching Lenzburg, the built-up area draws closer; at the Obere Mühle, the final section through the town begins. Here, too, the panels keep the memory of local industrial enterprises alive. Finally, the route leads into Lenzburg’s old town and continues to Lenzburg railway station.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
