01/ Overview
The route
Two castles, the shore of Lake Hallwil, and the orchards and vineyards of the Seetal shape this hike from Boniswil to Gelfingen.
From Boniswil railway station, the hiking trail first leads to the Aabach and Hallwyl Castle. This important moated castle stands on two islands; together with Heidegg Castle, it survived the Sempach War. The route then reaches the northern end of Lake Hallwil and remains close to the shore for a long stretch. Between the Tennwil lido and Aesch, open lakeshore, meadows and short sections of woodland alternate.
Beyond Aesch, the trail turns away from the lake and climbs through fields, orchards of standard fruit trees and vineyards towards Lindenberg. The highest point of the hike lies at around 600 m, before the route descends via Bleulikon to Hitzkirch. The commandery there recalls the time of the Teutonic Order.
Once again, the route leads uphill through open farmland to Heidegg Castle. It stands high above Lake Baldegg amid a park and cultivated landscape of national importance; the rose garden is also one of the stops along the way. The descent continues through Gelfingen to the railway station, while Lake Baldegg remains a little off the route.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
