01/ Overview
The route
From the moated castle on the Aabach, this circular hike leads via Egliswil up to Eichberg. Meadows, stretches of woodland and sweeping views over the Seetal accompany the return route to Seengen.
The approximately 13 km circular hike begins at the Seengen, Schloss Hallwyl bus stop. This important moated castle stands on two islands in the Aabach; it is well worth making a detour to visit either at the start or after returning. The route initially follows the Aabach across the open plain towards Seon. At Sigismüli, it turns away from the valley and continues through meadows and woodland to Egliswil.
At the Mühlebach, the trail passes through the village of Egliswil; the Häbni barbecue site lies directly on the route. This is followed by the longer ascent to Eichberg. The Hotel Restaurant Eichberg offers a welcome opportunity to stop for refreshments as views open out over the Seetal. Nearby, the route reaches its highest point at around 620 m.
The return route follows the edge of the forest and descends gradually to Seengen. It passes through the village, alongside the Reformed church, and finally returns to Hallwyl Castle. The Seengen, Schloss Hallwyl bus stop is once again close to the finish.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
