Alpine Panorama Trail, Stage 13/29

Many paths lead to the Napf - but no roads! One of the most beautiful approaches to the summit is the scenic range of hills via Menzberg. The panorama of the Alpine chain, Mittelland and Jura from the Napf is one of the most magnificent in Switzerland.

From the Wolhusen, Kreisel bus stop, the hiking trail leads through the village. Before long, it leaves the houses behind and climbs across open meadows to Steinhusen. As far as Gutenegg, pastures, scattered farms and short stretches of woodland alternate; the long ascent characterises the entire hike.

Higher up, the route continues in a steady succession of ascents and descents over the Waldighubel and past a small mountain inn. Around the Gitzichnubel, woodland increasingly dominates the landscape. The Chrothütte lies directly on the route, after which the trail continues uphill. At Stächelegg, the final ascent begins through the wooded hills of the Napf region.

After around five and a half hours and 1,100 metres of ascent, the Napf is reached. At just over 1,400 metres, it is the highest peak in the Napf region; a mountain restaurant stands on the summit. This is where the 17-kilometre hike ends. There is no public transport connection immediately at the destination: the nearest stop, Mettlenalp (Napf), is around 1.2 kilometres away.
