01/ Overview
The route
From the Rickenbach up to the open ridge: this scenic hike links Menznau with Menzberg, climbing through meadows and woodland to reach its highest point near Chrüzhubel.
The nearly ten-kilometre ascent to Menzberg begins at Menznau railway station. At first, the hiking trail leads through the village and briefly follows the Rickenbach. The houses are soon left behind, and the path climbs steadily between meadows, pastures and stretches of woodland. Via Twerenegg, it continues onto the scenic ridge that gives this three-hour panoramic hike its open character.
Towards Gutenegg, open ridges alternate with shady stretches of woodland. The route then continues uphill, reaching its highest point near Chrüzhubel at around 1,080 m. At the Oberlehn viewpoint, the Alpine panorama opens up once more before the path descends gently towards Menzberg. The final metres lead into the village, where the panoramic terrace at Landgasthof Menzberg offers an inviting place to stop for refreshments. Right beside it is the Menzberg, Dorfplatz PostBus stop, where the return journey to Menznau begins.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
