Emmenuferweg, Stage 4/4

At the start of this section you see the monastery towering over the town of Werthenstein. From there, the path is level for the most part and follows the shady shore of the Kleine Emme, as it slowly approaches the outskirts of Greater Lucerne.

From the Wolhusen stop, the approximately 20-kilometre hike begins with a short ascent. Between meadows and woodland, the trail soon reaches its highest point at around 600 m. It then descends to Werthenstein, where the pilgrimage church of Our Lady stands close to the route.

Beyond the village, the trail is characterised by open meadows, pastures and small patches of woodland. The differences in elevation are now minor, allowing the long distance to be covered at a brisk pace. At Schwellisee, the route leads directly to the water’s edge. Shortly afterwards, a brief section follows outside the marked hiking trail network before the yellow-waymarked trail resumes.

In the final third, the settlements become denser. Via Littauerboden, the hike continues between patches of woodland, open areas and houses. Towards Emmenbrücke, the trail descends to around 430 m. After just under five hours, the route ends at Emmenbrücke railway station, only a few steps from the stop.
