01/ Overview
The route
A short circuit between Willisau, wooded hills and the Änziwigger. Along the way are the Gütsch cross, the Chapel of St Nicholas and beautiful views across the Lucerne hinterland.
From Willisau railway station, the route initially leads through Schlossfeld to the sports facilities. At the deer park, a picnic area and children’s playground offer an opportunity for an early break. The trail then passes Buechwigger and climbs to the Gütsch cross. From there, views open up over Willisau; a little further on, the Chapel of St Nicholas stands directly beside the route.
After descending to the houses, the trail follows the Änziwigger for some distance. Meadows and pastures replace the built-up area before the route climbs through woodland. It reaches its highest point near Salberig at around 650 m. Some 170 metres of ascent are spread over a walking time of just over an hour and a half.
The return route descends again to the first houses and passes Heiligblut. Shortly before the finish, it passes Landvogteischloss, a Swiss cultural property of national significance. The route then leads through Willisau back to the railway station.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
