01/ Overview

The route

From the small town of Willisau, this circular hike crosses an open ridge to the herb village of Hergiswil. It then continues through woodland and meadows to the Enziwigger, which accompanies the route back to the old town.

The starting point is Willisau’s old town; the Willisau, Friedhof bus stop is just a few steps away. At the edge of the town, the route passes the Church of St Peter and Paul and the Landvogteischloss, a cultural property of national significance. The houses are soon left behind as the trail climbs across meadows and through woodland to the ridge.

The hiking trail continues steadily uphill along the ridge. At Lindenegg, there is a fire pit in the woods. A little later, near Buechehübeli, the route reaches its highest point at around 850 m. The panoramic ridge leads via Ober Lindenegg down to the herb village of Hergiswil bei Willisau.

The return leg begins in Hergiswil. The route now follows the Enziwigger out of the valley, passing Café Thalmann and continuing through Breiten and Eimatt. Meadows, stretches of woodland and the first houses alternate as the terrain slopes gently down towards Willisau. After around four hours, the circular hike ends at the Heiligblutkirche in the old town.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
