01/ Overview
The route
A very scenic stage in the heart of the Zug region. Across high moors, past countless cherry orchards, the vantage point at the Brunegg restaurant and the pretty St. Verena chapel, you reach the town of Zug.
From the Unterägeri, Seefeld bus stop, the yellow-waymarked hiking trail leads out of the village. Open meadows and pastures initially dominate the landscape, followed by alternating stretches of woodland and clearings. At Stepbach, there is a fire pit close to the trail. Gently ascending and descending, the route climbs to near Hochwacht. At around 855 m, the highest point is reached just over halfway through the hike.
The longer descent towards Zug then begins. Verenakapelle stands at the edge of the forest, a protected Baroque building dating from 1705 to 1710. The city’s residential neighbourhoods soon draw closer. The trail passes St. Michael’s Church and leads through the old town to the shore of Zugersee. After a short stretch through the centre, the approximately 13 km hike ends at Zug railway station after just over three hours.
