01/ Overview
The route
1400-metre descent through all vegetation levels - from the rock world of Greina to meadows and alps and the forest belt. Another ascent into the hidden Val di Campo and through larch forests to Capanna Bovarina.
The starting point is Capanna Scaletta. The nearest public transport stop, Pian Geirett, is around 600 m away. Right from the outset, the white-red-white waymarked mountain trail climbs to the highest point of the route. At just over 2,200 m, it traverses open slopes before the long descent begins.
Across pastures and later through forest, the route loses considerable elevation. Dàigra and Cozzera form small pockets of settlement on the broad valley slopes. Near Campo (Blenio), the lowest point is reached at around 1,200 m. Here the descent ends and the trail turns uphill again.
The final ascent passes close to the Oratorio di San Pietro and leads through open meadows and stretches of forest to Capanna Bovarina. After around 15 km and a little over five hours, the destination is reached. There is no public transport connection directly nearby; the nearest stop, Camperio, Piera, is just under 4 km away.
